Newly crowned (of thorns, if you follow GOP rhetoric) House Speaker MAGA Mike Johnson (R-La) claims to have an adopted black son, Michael, so he understands what it means to be black in the United States. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla) claimed in 2020 to have an adopted black son, Nestor, so he understands what it means to be black in the United States.

Interestingly, no one can find photographs of Michael in any Johnson family photographs, though he did live with the family for years.

Turns out, both are engaging in performative governance. Neither actually adopted the child as claimed (alternate facts, baby; adopted means what I say it means).
