If we insist on having a king, I vote for Charles and that we revert to 1775. A king who can deliver a lucid, germane speech that demonstrates a thoughtful vision for his nation and the world, not a whining, woe-is-me, self-serving, retribution-laden, hate-filled, and violent diatribe. A king who kicks his brother out of the family without even a pardon when Andrew breaks the law
King Charles III delivered a speech that presidential historian and Distinguished Professor at Vanderbilt University Jon Meachem termed “like a headmaster speaking to a school” as the King chastised the United States’ current leadership for abuse – and pending irrevocable destruction – through words and deeds of its earned, 250-year reputation as the leader of the free world. Meacham highlighted King Charles drawing a distinction between nationalism, the current populist and fascistic movement in the U.S. mistermed by that cult as patriotism. Meacham said, “There’s a difference between nationalism and patriotism. Nationalism is an allegiance to your own kind. Patriotism is an allegiance to a creed, and the King deftly laid out the roots to the American creed.” News alert: it ain’t Trump’s orange-aid, Amerikkka.
Besides a monarch ripping the U.S. a new anus in only the second speech delivered by a monarch to a joint session of Congress, I was amazed to see Republicans rising with Democrats to deliver multiple standing ovations as King Charles subtly but deftly blasted everything the Trump regime is doing on the world stage. Is the tide turning, or is MAGA just that fucking lacking in self-awareness and humility to understand he was ripping them to shreds with a stunning – especially in light of the crude, vulgar, inept WWE-inspired MAGA cosplay of the past 12 years – civil discourse?
